What Is World News?

world news

World news is a jargon term in the news media that refers to any news that originates outside of a local area or involves a global subject matter. It is not to be confused with foreign news (although the terms are often used interchangeably). Journalists who specialize in world news typically have either a background as a foreign correspondent or have been sent by their news organization on a temporary assignment abroad.

News agencies are organizations that supply professional photos, graphics and other multimedia content to a wide range of media outlets including newspapers, magazines, radio and television stations. They act as centralized hubs that can deliver verified, fact-checked news quickly to local and regional outlets enabling widespread distribution.

Aside from providing the backbone of news to media outlets, news agencies also act as a source for investigative journalism and provide expert commentary on events that are making headlines around the globe. Their work is important to keep the public well informed in an era of misinformation and disinformation.

One of the most popular topics for WWN was political satire that made fun of past and current presidents. In one story, the paper claimed that the American founding fathers were gay and that Abraham Lincoln was actually a woman. The paper also published real, graphic photos of the autopsied body of serial killer Ted Bundy and accused Florida medical examiners of concealing evidence. Cryptids were another popular topic with the WWN, featuring stories of Bigfoot, mermaids and a host of other half-animal half-human hybrids. These creatures were often linked to ecological problems such as holes in the ozone and alleged aliens.
