Gadget is a set of highly diverse modern devices that have entered human life for specific purposes. They are a combination of hardware and software, and they make work, entertainment and daily tasks much easier and more efficient.
For example, a web page might contain a gadget that displays the latest weather forecast. Another web page might contain a gadget that allows the user to subscribe to RSS feeds.
The word ‘gadget’ is also used to refer to any small device that is designed to enhance the appearance of an object. For instance, the word ‘gadget’ can be used to describe a small decorative frame for a computer monitor screen.
GADGET-1 is free software, and may be used for any purpose (including scientific research), provided that the author is credited prominently, and that the original copyright notices and the no-warranty notice are not removed from the source code. GADGET-2 builds upon and further extends the physics modules developed for the first public version of the code, adding support for tree-code methods, a new time integration model, a kinetic energy model, a novel SPH formulation based on entropy as independent variable, a domain decomposition strategy, and the TreePM functionality.
A new gadget can be added by editing a site page or a page template, then placing the Gadget icon on the desired location in the layout. When positioned over the Gadget, a Move icon appears, allowing the user to drag the gadget to a different location within the layout. The resulting layout is then saved as a new page, template or site design.
