The geopolitical dynamics of Southeast Asia after the Covid-19 pandemic show significant changes in relations between countries and regional strategies. As economies recover, countries in Southeast Asia must adapt to new challenges arising from the pandemic, including geopolitical tensions and changes in global trade patterns. One of the main factors in this dynamic is China’s increasing influence in the region. China has strengthened economic and military ties with Southeast Asian countries through various initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and cooperation in the technology sector. Despite this, countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam are showing a cautious attitude towards Chinese dominance, with some countries seeking to strengthen alliances with other regional and global powers, including the United States. The US, in an effort to counterbalance China’s influence, is increasingly actively involved in Southeast Asia. Through the Indo-Pacific strategy program, the US offers economic and military support to allied countries, making this region the main focus of their foreign policy. This initiative includes increasing defense capacity and maritime security cooperation which is expected to respond to potential threats from China. Apart from international politics, social and health issues also remain a major concern. Many countries in Southeast Asia face challenges in recovering health systems affected by the pandemic. Community discipline and unequal vaccine distribution create quite significant disparities. Therefore, regional cooperation on health becomes more important, with ASEAN seeking to create better response mechanisms to future health crises. Climate change is also an issue that is increasingly being raised in the geopolitical arena of Southeast Asia. Countries in the region are vulnerable to natural disasters exacerbated by climate change, such as floods and rising sea levels. Therefore, collaboration in climate mitigation efforts and sustainable development is a priority. This cooperation is not only beneficial for the environment but can also strengthen ties between countries. In an economic context, recovery after the pandemic has also triggered a shift in trade patterns. There is increasing reliance on digital trade and e-commerce. Countries such as Singapore and Malaysia are taking steps to increase technological innovation and attract foreign investment, seeking to rebuild stronger and more sustainable economic growth. In addition, a rising trend of economic nationalism is also visible in this region. Countries are starting to implement protectionist policies to protect their domestic industries, which can threaten regional economic cooperation. This raises challenges for ASEAN economic integration, which has been one of the main focuses in increasing regional competitiveness. Southeast Asia’s post-pandemic geopolitical dynamics focus on adapting to many new challenges, including resilience to global crises, strengthening strategic alliances, and developing sustainable policies. In facing an uncertain future, countries in the region must explore various opportunities to collaborate and find innovative solutions that can increase regional stability and prosperity. Despite the challenges, effective cooperation among Southeast Asian countries can create a stronger foundation for progress in the post-pandemic era.
